BluFi Makes July “Kids Count” Month

Happy August!
We had our best months in loan originations and fundings for June and July. It’s a great accomplishment as a company to successfully help so many people get home loans despite the tough economy. But, we recognize that it’s not easy out there for many families, which is why BluFi Cares, our charitable outreach program, designated July “Kids Count” month at BluFi. During July, we supported two well known organizations that help children every day.
Read on for how we helped make Kids Count, and ways you can too.
Rady Children’s Hospital
Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego is a nonprofit, 464-bed pediatric-care facility dedicated to excellence in care, research and teaching. They are the only hospital in the San Diego area dedicated exclusively to pediatric healthcare, and the region’s only designated pediatric trauma center.
BluFi executives recognized the efforts made at Rady Children’s Hospital to care for the most seriously ill and fragile children. Based on Rady’s wish list for most desired items, we held a toy drive at our company picnic, and gathered 636 toys! What an awesome effort by BluFi employees. The toys were delivered to children receiving care at the hospital’s cancer unit.
You can help: The hospital has a great page with different ways you can help. You can volunteer, fundraise, donate, even join their auxiliary. See http://www.rchsd.org/aboutus/getinvolved/index.htm for more.
Make -a-Wish Foundation
The Make-a-Wish Foundation of San Diego grants the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. It’s a beautiful mission, and we were excited to hear they were preparing to grant their 3,000th wish.
In celebration of their milestone, BluFi Lending donated $3,000 to help grant the organization’s 3,000th wish at a Padre’s baseball game on July 21. BluFi President and CEO John Lee was on hand to help grant wish kid Khadji Hunt’s wish to have his very own backyard basketball court.
Hunt is considered to have “status epilepticus,” a life-threatening condition in which the brain is in a state of persistent seizure. Having his own basketball court will allow Hunt to work toward his dream of becoming a professional basketball player and relieve stresses of daily life.
You can help:The Make-a-Wish Foundation has many opportunities for involvement too. Whether you’d like to volunteer, donate, or participate in a fundraising walk or run, there’s something for you. See http://www.makeawish-sd.org/giving/ways-to-support/ for more.
About BluFi Cares
BluFi Cares is a volunteer committee of BluFi Lending employees. Throughout the year, the committee selects organizations to support through donations and volunteerism. Previous organizations BluFi has supported include San Diego Food Bank, The Angel’s Depot, Wounded Warrior Project, and Dress for Success.
“We created our BluFi Cares program because we feel helping our community is part of being a responsible business,” said John Lee. “Just like our commitment to deliver transparent responsible lending to our customers, we have a duty to our community to support organizations like these that truly make a difference every day.”
We’re so proud to support Rady Children’s Hospital and the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and thank our BluFi Cares committee for helping us make Kids Count. We hope we’ve encouraged you to make Kids Count in your community.
